  • Summer School ‘Adventures of Architecture in Ostrava’
  • VŠB – Technical University of Ostrava, Czechia
  • July 7, up until July 11, 2025

A significant part of the program focuses on experimental procedures in the mediation of knowledge and the creation of architectural solutions. Through lectures, presentations, symposia and walking tours we discover the past, present and future development of architecture in Ostrava and nearby regions. The program provides exploring its nature, wilderness, urban life and its future development. To get a vivid sense of the architecture and the city itself, the summer school takes field trips to view interesting places and buildings, we work on selected topics of in situ research and design workshops.

Ostrava and its neighbourhood offer a wide range of examples of how to deal with many post-industrial areas and buildings (some of them in the position of an industrial heritage) and how to transform them into a vivid future. You can meet also empty spaces and urban wilderness in the city structure. A week program will provide workshop tasks, field trips and adventure experiences to introduce the post-industrial region and show how cities or private investors transform the post-industrial region towards its new future.

We provide an all-day programme for your five days in Ostrava, it will be mostly outdoor. You do not pay any costs for the university programme. You will pay only 40 EU administration fees. We do not organize your travels to Ostrava and back and do not provide accommodation and food in Ostrava and other travel costs. All students who successfully finish the course programme receive a certificate evaluated by 3 ECTS credits.
