Colloquium | 50th anniversary Labyrint Museum van Buuren – Brussels

The Belgian Association of Garden and Landscape Architects (ABAJP-BVTL) and partner associations and institutions organize a colloquium on on Friday 19 October 2018 the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the labyrinth in the gardens of the Museum van Buuren in Brussels and its restoration this year. 

The colloquium takes place on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the construction of the labyrinth in the garden of the Museum van Buuren. The labyrinth was built in 1968. It was designed by the garden and landscape architect René Pechère (1908-2002). The restoration of the labyrinth will be finished this year.

Belgian and foreign speakers will highlight René Pechère. In addition to being a private garden designer, Pechère was also director of projects in the public sector in Brussels, adviser in the restoration of historic gardens, author of books and co-founder and inspirator of international associations.

Speakers include: Carmen Añon Feliu (honorary president of the ICOMOS IFLA International Scientific Committee on Cultural Landscapes), Annie van Marcke de Lummen (collaborator of René Pechère and honorary member of the ICOMOS-IFLA International Scientific Committee on Cultural Landscapes), Ann Voets (art historian and landscape architect BVTL, member of the Royal Commission for Monuments and Sites in Brussels), Anne-Marie Sauvat (landscape architect BVTL and restorer of the labyrinth, contributing member of the ICOMOS-IFLA International Scientific Committee on Cultural Landscapes), Jacques Boulanger-Français (landscape architect BVTL and former René Pechère employee for Expo 58), Dr. Heimerick MJ Tromp (historian, former curator of the Het Loo Palace Museum), Paul Deroose (landscape architect BVTL and advisory member of the ICOMOS-IFLA International Scientific Committee for Cultural Landscapes).

Place and time

  • Place: AUDITORIUM of the C.I.II.III.IV.A FOUNDATION – Department of Garden, Landscape and Urban Ecostructure 55 Kluisstraat in 1050 Brussels
  • Time: Reception from 9.30 am, the lectures in Dutch and French start at exactly 10 am and end around 4 pm.
